Good use of Photoshop here. Too bad they didn’t pat attention to the fact that they have sun highlights on the car, despite the fact that was ever was originally pictured was sitting completely in the shadow of a building. Especially funny is the added shadow for the left side tire..that’s at exactly the wrong angle to have been taken at the same time as the rest of the pic.
Houston based artist William Burge created this spooky VW for the Essen Motor Show. More closely associated with flower power, it’s rare to see a ’68 Beetle decorated with something as morbid as a gargoyle.
I don’t think it’s photoshopped at all. I see the photographer’s shadow on the driver’s side front wheel area. the car’s shadow would be behind it and not visible. And I think you are confusing the difference in shades between the drive and the sidewalks as the shadow of a building. If it was being advertised as present at a car show, I’d go just to see it. But I think it’s on the wrong side of the pond
Before seeing other pics I had assumed this wasn’t Photoshop (mainly because of the early-morning shadows and how they lay across the body). I am in favor of building more of these… only with less gargoyle and more aerodynamics.
Apparently My last comment was deleted. The Image of Phantoms Is the soul property of the Art Car Museum and W.T Burge. I insist on being able to Write about my own car people..Her name is not gargoyels or cargoyels. it is phantoms. This Photo was taken at the art car ball in Houston Texas, Phantoms first day on the road. Don’t treat the owners of these cars rudely. If you do, you don’t deserve to have this site.
I have seen this car it is 100% real and not photo shop-ed. I saw it at the Art Car Museum in Houston 2009. A real work of art! and beautifully crafted.
As for Big carbon footprint, He can suck my ass. This car has been printed in every major newpaper in the WORLD via AP photos during the Essen Motor show in Germany. It has taken first place art car at the Houston Art Car Parade AND took first place hand built custom at the O’riley Auto show. I dare any of you people that commented to show me something built from scratch or something that doesn’t look like every other rubber stamp car show clone out there. Don’t show me something with a paint job that is a minor variation of something a billion people have. There are more paint jobs than you can count……. how boring can you get. I’d take the worst art car before I would spend a dime on a herd car.

awesome. Now when do you plan on covering it with fake fur?
If the workmanship were better, this would be totally cool instead of 60% cool.
@Big Carbon Footprint: I think it looks exactly as it was intended to look. The only thing I’d change is the side the steering is on.
but you’re entitled to see it otherwise.
Damn this looks cool, now i wonder if it is worth building it over a Plymouth prowler
this is really nice looking. now the question is, was it worth building it over a Plymouth Prowler?

Still, cool fantasy car.

Its a ’68 Beetle.
It looks like something off the cover of HEAVY METAL magazine!
Wow… I would have never guessed it was originally a Beetle. Kinda cool actually.

Your website can eat hot death. publishing photos without permission is a can of worms. sure you want to open it?
On the car: Gorgeous work.
On the copyright issue: It’s been more than ninety days. How goes the fight?
I saw this same car in 2008 at the Houston car Show and have the pic to prove it was not just completed in 2010
e-mail me i will copy of it!
